Leeds striker Patrick Bamford is off the mark already.

Patrick Bamford of Leeds United looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Norwich City at Elland Road on February 02, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford opened his account for the season with a well taken strike against Bristol City at the weekend.

The goal will lift his confidence after a barren pre-season.

Oddly enough, Bamford’s season might have been helped by Kemar Roofe’s imminent exit. Leeds are set to sell Roofe to Anderlecht for £5.5 million, reports Dhnet.be.

Strikers can be peculiar, and Bamford is no exception. He is clearly talented, but at Leeds he has always been second choice to Kemar Roofe during his first season.

Even when Roofe was out injured, Bamford’s spell in the team seemed like it was only temporary.

Now Roofe has gone, Bamford can finally relax a little, and feel like he is first choice.

This could help his game blossom. No longer does he need to look over his shoulder to the bench, or worry about being dropped the next match.

Leeds cashing in on Roofe wasn’t ideal, but the price is fair considering he has just a year left on his contract.

Leeds might actually benefit, if they can now get the best out of Bamford, signed for £7 million last summer. It’s addition by subtraction.

The obvious risk is not having an alternative and just relying on youngsters or makeshift options.

It will only be possible to see the full form of Leeds’ options once the transfer window is closed.

But any new signings will have to compete against Bamford, who can feel finally like this is his team.
