Everton signed Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City in the summer.
Toffees boss Ronald Koeman is already under intense pressure at Goodison Park following his side’s slow start to their 2017/18 campaign, both domestically and on the continent.
The Dutchman spent close to £150 million on acquiring new talent at Everton during the summer transfer window, and his acumen in the market is being heavily scrutinised, with most of the new big-money arrivals yet to make an impact.
One summer signing in particular who has failed to impress for the Blues thus far is Icelandic ace Gylfi Sigurdsson, who arrived at Goodison Park from Swansea City in August for the small matter of £45 million, plus potential add-ons.

The 28-year-old is still yet to register either a goal or an assist in seven Premier League outings for Koeman’s men thus far, and the longer that wait goes on, the harder it will be for him to show his true worth for the Toffees.
The extortionate price-tag brought along enough pressure as it was, but the intense scrutiny currently surrounding Everton and Koeman’s philosophies are doubling the weight on Sigurdsson’s shoulders.

It certainly hasn’t helped that he has been played out of position on a regular basis by the Dutchman, but there are now genuine questions being asked pertaining to whether the Merseyside outfit have wasted £45 million by bringing the 54-capped international to the club in the summer.
Koeman certainly seemed to be thrashing money around like it was going out of fashion during the transfer window, with little thought as to how he was going to fit all of the new signings into his setup.
There is still a long way to go, of course, and Sigurdsson could very well go on to be a success on Merseyside, but for now, the jury is certainly still out.
