Chances are the announcement of England’s Under-19 squad on Thursday will have passed by most Tottenham Hotspur supporters.

After all, only one Tottenham player was named in Keith Downing’s latest selection – that being central defender Japhet Tanganga.

But the inclusion of Stevenage FC’s Ben Wilmot may also interest those of a Spurs persuasion, given recent reports linking him with a move to Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

That Wilmot, who has only made 15 senior appearances, is England’s sole League Two representative in his age group suggests Tottenham could be on to something – if they are indeed keen on the 18-year-old.

And the chance for he and Tanganga – who is one of a number of players impressing in Spurs Under-23s this season – to spark up an early relationship could have long-term benefits for the Londoners.

This could, after all, become their first choice centre-back pairing eventually.

Would Wilmot be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur?
