Celtic and Aston Villa wanted the 22-year-old defender last summer.

With Celtic preoccupied with other targets, is the door open for Aston Villa to renew an interest in Scott McKenna?
Both Celtic and Aston Villa were linked with the Aberdeen centre-back last summer, though he wound up staying at Aberdeen.
But he’s surely on borrowed time as a Don and, with the Hoops seemingly close to signing Christopher Jullien [L’Equipe], could Villa return for the Scotland centre-back?
After all, Dean Smith might be in the market for a new central defender – at least one.
Since releasing Tommy Elphick, the Villans only have injury-prone James Chester as a centre-back option, though they will hope to re-sign Tyrone Mings or Kortney Hause on a permanent basis.
Nevertheless, there is certainly a scope to go back in for McKenna, the subject of a failed deadline-day bid by the West Midlands outfit last August.
It certainly doesn’t appear as if Celtic are interested for now, so the path might be clear for Smith to take a free run at the 22-year-old.
