Aston Villa currently have Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah on loan until the end of the season.

Josh Onomah of Aston Villa looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Birmingham City and Aston Villa at St Andrews (stadium) on October 29, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

According to a report in the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Josh Onomah could be used in a swap deal with Watford, and that may just be good news for Aston Villa.

Steve Bruce has confirmed to the Birmingham Mail that Villa want to sign Onomah from Spurs at the end of his loan spell, but that transfer appeared highly unlikely at first.

Onomah was always considered to be highly regarded by Tottenham, and was a favourite of Mauricio Pochettino.

However, Onomah’s potential availability in a swap deal with Watford may just suggest that Pochettino now considers the 20-year-old to be expendable.

Tottenham have a wealth of talent at central midfielder currently, and Harry Winks’ emergence this season has strengthened Pochettino options in the position.

It now seems that Spurs would be open to cashing in on Onomah, if a sizeable offer came in.

To reach Spurs’ asking price, Villa may need to be promoted this term. But, if they are playing in the Premier League football next term, then there may just be a chance of singing Onomah and completing a transfer which initially appeared highly problematic.
