Arsenal have clinched a move for Lucas Torreira.
The pendulum of power in North London has shifted over the past two seasons with Tottenham landing consecutive top four spots at the expense of Arsenal.
This was a factor in Arsene Wenger’s exit as manager and new man Unai Emery is busy trying to get the Gunners back on track.
His biggest deal to date is to acquire Lucas Torreira, a budding superstar who impressed at the World Cup for Uruguay.
Torreira is a strong tackler, quality passer, and has boundless energy in midfield.
He can become Arsenal’s answer to Mousa Dembele, a midfielder who has shone for Tottenham in North London derby matches over the past five years.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, Arsenal are landing Torreira just as they are said to be losing Dembele.
The Belgian has just one year left on his contract and is expected to push for an exit after the World Cup.
The Sun report Spurs may not sign a replacement, and use Harry Winks instead of Dembele, a real risk considering his recent injury history.
Arsenal are getting stronger with Torreira, and Tottenham risk getting weaker if Dembele leaves.
Spurs will hope these changes are not enough for the Gunners to bridge the gap.
