
Everton fans have hit out at Danny Murphy after his comments about Dominic Calvert-Lewin on talkSPORT.
Following England’s 1-0 win against Romania on Sunday, Murphy claimed that the Everton striker should be ‘thankful’ he is playing for his country after penalty drama involving Jordan Henderson.
The Liverpool man took the penalty off the Everton striker when he was fouled in the area.
And rather than allow the Everton player to take it, Henderson took it off him and then saw his spot-kick saved.
Murphy defended the Liverpool captain for his actions, and instead, he was critical of the Everton player.
Everton fans were pretty angry at Murphy’s comments and how he failed to even criticise Henderson even though he was the one at fault.
And what also didn’t sit well with the Goodison Park faithful is how the former Anfield player claimed that Calvert-Lewin should be ‘thankful’ for being part of the England set-up.
Calvert-Lewin has worked his way up from England’s lower leagues, to play for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, and most recently produced his best campaign as a professional.
There’s no doubt that DCL has earned the right to be in his current position and if Harry Kane were to get injured then he’s the next man to start upfront, so he deserves that respect.
