Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are gushing over Arsenal new boy Takehiro Tomiyasu, with some arguing that Fabio Paratici should’ve signed him.
Arsenal stole the bragging rights at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon by smashing Spurs 3-1 in the North London derby.
First-half goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka pretty much meant that the Gunners had won the game before the second 45 minutes even began.
It was a toothless, awful attacking display by Tottenham – and Tomiyasu played his role in that.
The Japan international expertly dealt with Son Heung-min for the most part and won pretty much every aerial duel that he contested – four, according to WhoScored.
Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Tomiyasu during the summer transfer window [The Daily Mail] but wound up signing Emerson Royal from Barcelona instead, leaving the path clear for Edu to get the former Bologna right-back in a £20 million deal.
And here’s how those on the Lilywhite half of the North London divide reacted to the latter’s performance:
Consolation
Despite being shackled by Tomiyasu for much of the game, Son did pull one back for Tottenham late on, but it proved a mere consolation on an overall rotten day for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
One reason for their insipid front line was Harry Kane, who didn’t look to be at the races once again.
Kane is yet to score now in any of his five Premier League games this season after reportedly trying to leave Hotspur Way during the summer transfer window.
And he’s certainly playing like a man who still does not want to be at Spurs, with the odd pop shot being the bulk of his action this evening.
