Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Ludwig Francillette and Yannick Toure had been released.

Clearly, the duo are held in high regard by the Newcastle fans, as the news has been met with devastation among the fanbase.

Francillette made 17 appearances for Newcastle’s youth teams this season, scoring one goal from centre-back.

In Toure’s case, the 20-year-old netted three goals in 12 Premier League 2 appearances.

You could argue that Newcastle have let Francillette leave because of his age.

The Frenchman is now 22, which is when some clubs would perhaps expect their academy products to have at least one senior appearance.

Francillette has never played for the first-team.

Neither has Toure, although he absolutely shone at BSC Young Boys, and is a Switzerland Under-20 international.

In 25 games for BSC Young Boys’ Under-18 side, he netted 24 goals.

Has Steve Bruce failed Francillette and Toure?

They both seem like bright prospects.

If Steve Bruce was someone who trusted in youth more, perhaps both would’ve made their first-team debuts by now.

In fact, you could argue that Francillette and Toure wouldn’t have been released if Newcastle had a manager who focused more on youth.

Hopefully, the pair can find a new club quickly. Judging by the comments below, they won’t be free agents for too long.

Let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying…
