Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to discuss Steve Bruce’s comments about Rafa Benitez, and they’re not happy.

Speaking ahead of the Premier League clash with Aston Villa tonight, the ex-Sunderland boss was asked if any Newcastle manager could be successful under Mike Ashley.

In response to that, Bruce said the following.

In our view, it almost sounds as if he’s mocking the supporters’ admiration for Benitez by referring to him as ‘the mighty Rafa’.

These comments really do sound like they’re coming from a man who’s feeling the pressure right now.

Now, it feels as if he might’ve burned any remaining bridges he had left with the fanbase, who almost universally adored the Spaniard.

In our view, Bruce is lucky that supporters aren’t allowed in to St James’ Park.

If they were, we feel they’d be giving the former Manchester United centre-back a seriously tough time right now with the same intensity seen when they decided Alan Pardew had run his course.

St James’ Park was littered with ‘sack Pardew’ banners for months and months, and arguably, things were at least better than they are now.

Let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about Bruce’s comments…
