Hasselbaink’s response when asked about Leeds United return

Northampton Town manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink played for Leeds United in the 1990s.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has suggested to The Express that he does not plan to return to Leeds United anytime soon.

Hasselbaink played for Leeds from 1997 until 1999 before making the move to Spain to play for Atletico Madrid.

A hugely successful player during his time in England, the former Netherlands international striker is now an established football manager.

The 45-year-old former Chelsea star is now in charge of Northampton Town in League One, having also managed Royal Antwerp, Burton Albion and Queens Park Rangers so far in his career.

Hasselbaink has no plan to make a return to Elland Road as a manager anytime soon.

“No, no, no, no,” Hasselbaink told The Express when asked if he has thought about returning to Leeds in the future.

”Look, I had two magnificent years there. Leeds is a very important club in my past. I love the club to do well and to see the club doing well.

“I’m at Northampton. I’m enjoying my time at Northampton and getting my experience, getting my know-how and learning and being with players and having good people around me.”

Leeds appointed Thomas Christiansen in the summer of 2017 following the departure of Garry Monk, who is now in charge of Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

The Whites started the season strongly, but results and performances have been hugely disappointing.

The West Yorkshire outfit are now outside of the Championship playoff spots, and the Elland Road faithful must be getting frustrated.
