Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has admitted that he was left ‘surprised’ by Marcelo Bielsa’s comments after he claimed that he ‘can’t enjoy’ Leeds United’s promotion push, as he told Sky Sports Football (16/07/20 at 4:45 pm).

The former Whites striker believes that Bielsa ‘should enjoy it’, as he edges ever closer to helping Leeds making a return to the promised land.

As many managers have found out before, walking the touchline at Elland Road isn’t easy and even the most experienced have struggled.

But Bielsa, who is world-renowned, has proven to be the best manager Leeds have had for many a year, as Hasselbaink was asked whether he was surprised that Bielsa admitted to not enjoying these final moments of the season.

“I did enjoy it [the build-up to winning promotion when he was manager of Burton],” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports. “But I am surprised [by his comments]. I do understand what he is saying.

“But I am surprised he is saying that because he is a big football man. He’s been at other big, big clubs, and he’s been under pressure. That’s what it’s due to, the pressure of the football match.

“So, he should enjoy it. He should find the place for it and this is what he has been working for. To put himself in that position and playing for these kind of moments.”

The last time Leeds were in the Premier League was in 2004, and a whole generation, and a bit more, of Whites fans have gone without seeing their side compete against the best of the best.

Over the years, in their quest to try and return to England’s top-tier, Leeds have fallen down to League One, but those days are now behind them.

If they can get over that dotted line then with Bielsa at the helm, Leeds may well be a force to be reckoned with next season.
