Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly tried to sign Hasan Ali Kaldirim last summer and in January – but it is unlikely that it will be third time lucky.

If Celtic were serious about signing Turkish international left-back Hasan Ali Kaldirim, then now is the perfect time to strike.

According to AMK, the 27-year-old has failed to reach an agreement with Fenerbahce over a new contract, meaning he will be free to leave the Istanbul giants this summer.

And this comes just five months after Fotomac claimed Celtic had offered Kaldirim a three-year contract at Parkhead in a deal worth around £1.6 million-a-year.

Furthermore, the Daily Record claimed last summer that Celtic were willing to pay £2 million for his signature. Therefore, with Kaldirim looking likely to bring an end to five successful years in Fenerbahce colours, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has the ideal opportunity to finally sign one of his long-standing transfer targets.

Despite Fener finishing a disappointing third in the Super Lig table, Besiktas claiming a second successive title, the 16-time turkey international continues to impress in starting XI.

However, a lot has changed since Celtic attempted to ramp up their interest at the turn of the year. Despite links with Manchester United and Arsenal, homegrown hero Kieran Tierney looks certain to remain at Parkhead for one more year at the very least.

Furthermore, fellow left-back Emilio Izaguirre ended speculation about his future by inking a one-year contract extension. The Honduran international had looked set to bring an end to his seven year association with Celtic but will now continue to act as back-up to the highly-rated Tierney.

Therefore, free-agent or not, Kaldirim may have missed his chance at Celtic.
