Adrian impressed for West Ham United on Sunday.
Speaking to BBC Sport, West Ham United boss David Moyes has refused to confirm whether Joe Hart has lost his spot as first-choice goalkeeper following Adrian’s heroics in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat by Manchester City.
The Spaniard was sensational as a late goal from David Silva denied Moyes’s side what would have been an outstanding point away to high-flying City at the Etihad yesterday.
The West Ham boss was forced to play Adrian after Hart was ineligible to face his parent club and such a solid performance has prompted debate as to whether he should displace Hart from now on.
Hart had conceded 28 goals in his first 14 games as a Hammer and although such a poor record also reflects on the defence in front of him, he hasn’t been the rock that West Ham fans thought he’d be.
And although Moyes did not confirm that the England keeper had lost his place to Adrian, he did intimate that “another chance” could be coming the 30-year-old’s way.
“If you get the jersey in football you hope you can retain it. You hope that if you play well you might get another chance. That’s football and I don’t think that’s changed,” he told BBC Sport.
Adrian tussled with Darren Randolph for Slaven Bilic’s affections last season and the pair wound up sharing it for much of the campaign, but the structure seems slightly more rigid now and if the Sam Allardyce signing can keep his spot, and then kick on, then it could be a long few months for Hart.
