West Ham United have been really poor over the past month or so.
West Ham ace Declan Rice sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and explained how this last week’s warm weather training camp in Miami has been an insight into what pre-season will be like.
The Hammers are currently in a whole world of trouble, and sit precariously in 17th position in the Premier League table, just two points clear of the drop zone.
The club’s decision to take the players out to Florida for a mid-season training camp went down like a led balloon with the West Ham fans, who viewed the trip as somewhat of an easy ride for the players.
That is not a notion that Rice concurs with, though.
The 19-year-old spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and explained just how hard he and his teammates have worked during the Miami trip:
“The sessions were probably an insight into what pre-season is going to be like! We’re Premier League footballers so we’ve got to be fit as a fiddle really, and the manager, to bring us out here, we’ve got to work hard. And when we get back we’ve got to keep going.”
David Moyes is, of course, only under contract with the Hammers until the summer, but Rice’s words would suggest that he expects the Scot to be in charge for the long-term.
Next up for West Ham is a vital clash with Southampton on March 31st, and if Moyes is to have any chance of still being in charge next season, his side will surely have to beat Mark Hughes’ new team, before making their climb up the division towards mid-table.
