Erik Lamela has been one of Tottenham Hotspur’s best players this season but he could end up starting the North London derby on the bench.

The £25.8 million signing from Roma was disappointing in last night’s Champions League tie against Inter Milan.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was not impressed, and substituted Lamela after just 69 minutes.

The Argentine had one attempts on goal which missed the target, and gave away more fouls (3) than he won tackles (2).

Lamela was booked for his troubles and managed only 41 touches before he was taken off, with matchwinner Christian Eriksen taking his place.

Spurs left Eriksen and Son on the bench for this crucial game, with an eye on facing Arsenal at the weekend.

Both players are likely certain to start after impressing after coming on, with Eriksen scoring the winner.

Lamela’s performance made Mauricio Pochettino’s decision for the Arsenal game easy.

He did nothing to state his case to face Arsenal last night, and while he has been an impressive performer across the season as a whole so far, he will likely be on the bench himself at The Emirates.
