Everton are reportedly plotting a shock move to take Danny Rose from Spurs.
You can hardly blame Everton for planning an ambitious swoop for Danny Rose.
According to the Daily Star, The Toffees are weighing up a move for the Tottenham Hotspur left-back, who is valued at around £45 million. And while that is a rather hefty price tag for a player who has barely featured in 2017 due to injuries, Everton know that Leighton Baines cannot last forever and there are few better alternatives in the modern game than Spurs’ number three.
Before Everton get carried away, however, the report adds that Manchester United are leading the chase. Manager Jose Mourinho still has not settled on a first-choice left back and Ashley Young, for all his fine recent form, looks like a stop gap at best.
And Rose might have already made it clear that he has his sights set on a bigger club than those from the blue half of Merseyside.
“Time is running out and I do want to win trophies. I don’t want to play football for 15 years and not have one trophy or one medal,” the 27-year-old, who is yet to get his hands on silverware, told The Sun in that explosive interview in the summer.
But if Rose is worried about his lack of trophies at Tottenham, why would he genuinely consider swapping North London for Goodison Park?
Everton have gone even longer without lifting a title of any kind and, as it stands, are battling away at the wrong end of the Premier League table and could not look further away from fighting for a place at the top.
If its trophies Rose wants, moving to an Everton side who are unlikely to be even playing European football next season would be a questionable decision to say the least.
