Tottenham Hotspur have not won a major trophy since 2008.

Tottenham stopper Hugo Lloris spoke exclusively to Sky Sports ahead of his side’s clash with Newcastle United at Wembley today, and seemed to disagree with his manager Mauricio Pochettino’s recent comments on the need to win trophies.
The Argentine spoke at length earlier this week about how finishing inside the top four on a consistent basis is the most important thing for Spurs at the moment, and that winning a trophy is not a necessity for his team to reach the next level, as quoted by the Guardian:
“We are going to create a debate that to win a trophy is going to help the club. I don’t agree with that. That only builds your ego. In reality the most important thing is being consistently in the top four and playing in the Champions League”
Whilst Pochettino’s comments are certainly up for debate, Lloris seemed to go completely against what his manager said, when speaking exclusively to Sky Sports:

“We are all ambitious, we all try to do our best in every training session and game, but we have to run after trophies. They are the most important thing in football – it’s the only thing you remember when you retire.”
Tottenham currently sit seven points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, and they have the chance to close the gap to just four when they welcome Newcastle to Wembley today.
It still remains incredibly unlikely that Spurs will win the league, however, and with a tough tie against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League to come, their 11-year wait for a major trophy might just continue to rumble on this season.
