Leeds midfielder and Mateusz Klich do not see eye to eye on his best position.

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has been on the outside looking in for most of the season.

He has failed to win a place in the team, starting only one league game.

His manager Thomas Christiansen was quizzed about him at his Thursday press conference, but did not want to give too much attention to Klich’s frustration, insisting he must wait for his chance.

He was quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post: “He’s a defensive midfielder, this is his position on the pitch, and right now I have three or four in that situation. I have to choose.”

Christiansen sees Klich on a near daily basis in training, but his comments in categorising him as a defensive midfielder suggest he has got the Poland international completely wrong.

Not sure? Have a look at what Klich himself had to say when he arrived at Leeds United.

Klich told the Yorkshire Post he sees himself as more of an attacking player.

He said: “I am more of a creative midfielder, but of course I am not afraid to fight and I will give 100 per cent on the pitch for the three points and for the win in games. I can play good football and I can create some good stuff on the pitch.”

Leeds have several attacking options, but perhaps the best way for Klich to thrive is for Christiansen to allow him to express himself, instead of putting him into a box as a defensive midfielder.

Earlier in his career Klich earned the nickname ‘The Penetrator’, for his ability to cut through defences his his passes.

Leeds haven’t seen any of that yet, and perhaps Christiansen is simply the wrong manager for him.
