Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen spoke highly of Vurnon Anita after the match against Nottingham Forest, as quoted by Leeds Live.

Anita featured for Leeds in the Championship game against Forest at Elland Road on Monday afternoon.

The 28-year-old Dutchman, who can operate as a full-back or as a defensive midfielder, came on as a substitute in place of Luke Ayling on 26 minutes.

Leeds head coach Christiansen was pleased with the performance of the former Ajax and Newcastle United star against Forest.

Christiansen told Leeds Live when asked if Leeds need to strengthen at left-back in the January transfer window: “What I believe is that Anita came in and make a very good job there knowing that he had been long time out of the team and he came in like he had been playing there long time and we have recovered another important player for the team.”

Do Christiansen’s aforementioned comments suggest that Leeds will not be signing a recognised left-back in the January transfer window? Probably.

Gaetano Berardi can operate as a right-back or as a left-back, and since Christiansen was pleased with Anita’s performance on Monday, this could be a sign that he will not make a move for a recognised left-back in the January transfer window.

Christiansen was also coy about his plan in the January transfer window after the match, telling BBC Radio Leeds when asked if he would like to add to his squad: “We will see.”
