According to The Telegraph, Carlos Corberan is on the list of candidates that could replace Marcelo Bielsa if the Argentine leaves this summer.
We can imagine that most of the Leeds squad will be absolutely gutted when Bielsa goes. After all, the Argentine has transformed the fortunes of this club and he’s gotten so many of these players playing their best football.
However, if Corberan does replace Bielsa, we can imagine that there’s one player who will be quite happy to see the Spaniard return to Elland Road – Jamie Shackleton.
Indeed, Corberan managed Shackleton when he was coming through the U23s at Elland Road, and it’s fair to say that the current Huddersfield boss was a fan of the midfielder.
What’s been said?
Corberan praised Shackleton on many occasions during his time at Leeds, but the most notable comments came after Shackleton returned from injury to face Millwall for the U23s a few years ago.
“Jamie came back from a long-term injury and started in the first XI because we didn’t have enough players to play the game so he started,” Corberan said.
“And he, for me, played an amazing game. He is one of the players that, for me, has the potential to help Leeds and I, 100 per cent, think he’s going to be in the future in our first-team.”
Spot on
Corberan’s prediction for Shackleton was absolutely spot on.
The midfielder has played plenty of first-team games now, and he’s come a long way since being a U23 player.
If Corberan comes back to Leeds this summer, he’ll be reuniting with a player who has come on leaps and bounds in recent years, and it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see Shackleton become a key player under Corberan.
