Leeds United have been linked with Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick recently.

Aston Villa’s signing of Christopher Samba may just have opened the door for Leeds United to snap up Tommy Elphick.

Villa announced Samba’s arrival yesterday, and it leaves their options at centre-back looking strong.

Villa now have Samba, John Terry, Nathan Baker, James Chester, Micah Richards and Elphick all competing to play in the heart of their defence.

And, as a result, Steve Bruce will surely be looking to cut his squad numbers down.

Elphick is a player thought to be at threat of leaving Villa, after a disappointing campaign last time around.

And Leeds are one of the clubs who are believed to be interested in signing Elphick.

The Birmingham Mail suggest that Leeds hold an interest in snapping up Elphick, should he become available.

And Thomas Christiansen may find Villa willing to negotiate, if they are to move for Elphick now.

Leeds have just signed up Matthew Pennington to bolster their defensive options, but are believed to want another centre-back before the competitive season starts.
