The hollow thrashing may go down as one of the least satisfactory 6-1 wins in history, as Juventus ended Shakhtar’s unbeaten home record this season to win 1-0 in Ukraine, condemning Chelsea to a place in the Europa League.
Fernando Torres scored twice and looked full of confidence, the trick now is to turn that into consistency. It was Benitez’s first win as Chelsea coach, in four attempts, and eases the early pressure on him.
