Speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Football Daily Podcast, Robert Snodgrass has been waxing-lyrical about Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths after he was left out of Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad.
The West Brom man was discussing the Scotland national team selection and he says that they should have called Griffiths up due to his natural ability in terms of finishing.
“Listen, in terms of finishing, ever since he was a kid really when he was like 16, coming through and I’ve said this many times that he just has that instinct to shoot from anywhere in the park,” Snodgrass said.
“To answer your question he has got that natural ability and Pat will tell you that these strikers they just think differently, they hit it quicker than wingers, midfielders or defenders, they just know. So to have him in there with his record, what’s obviously gone against Griffiths is that he’s not played consistently this year, they’ve obviously gone for Edouard up top, but you always need goal scorers in your team, and looking at it I’d like to have him in the team.”

Snodgrass is right about Griffiths.
Scotland may have a number of talented strikers, but none of them can hit a ball in quite the same way Griffiths can.
Yes, he hasn’t played a lot of football this season, but with the squads being extended to allow 26 players to be called up, there was room for Steve Clarke to take a bit of a risk.
Whether or not Clarke ends up regretting snubbing Griffiths remains to be seen, but Snodgrass seemingly believes he should’ve gone to the tournament.
