Steve Clarke was left furious after Rangers’ win over Kilmarnock on Wednesday.

Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock were thumped 5-0 at Rangers on Wednesday night, but the game has been overshadowed by sectarianism rearing its ugly head once again.

After watching Alfredo Morelos destroy his 10-man side, Clarke launched a stunning attack on Rangers fans for abuse he received at Ibrox..

Clarke, as quoted by BBC, suggested that Rangers fans used a number of sectarian slurs against him last night, sparking his remarkable tirade.

Clarke noted that he is glad that he was taken away from the west of Scotland by Chelsea, noting that his children don’t have to put up with any of the abuse he received.

Sectarianism has absolutely no place in football, and Clarke’s anger at the situation may even impact Celtic down the line, if he’s so unhappy with the state of play in Glasgow.

Many – such as pundit Pat Nevin (Daily Record) – have identified Clarke as a future Celtic manager, believing that he could even be the man to succeed Brendan Rodgers one day having impressed as Kilmarnock.

Yet having been so appalled by the sectarian abuse last night, putting himself right into the middle of this poisonous matter by taking over at Celtic would seemingly be a nightmare scenario for Clarke, with one night of it seemingly stressful enough, never mind as a full-time job.

It’s admittedly a tiny, minuscule aspect of what is a huge problem in Scottish football, but it may well leave Celtic having to consider other options whenever Rodgers does move on.

Of course, when a club the size of Celtic come calling, it’s hard to say no. Clarke may yet be tempted to go to Parkhead, but his comments last night hint that it isn’t exactly a dream for him at this point.
