The likes of West Ham and Everton would gladly swap places with the Saints at the quarter way stage.
But things aren’t all sweetness and light at St Marys, as evidenced by Boufal’s celebration following his supreme solo goal.
The attacker made a beeline for his manager as he sprinted 50 yards to thump his chest in Pellegrino’s face snubbing a congratulatory high-five from the Argentine in the process.
While Saints fans will want to see passion from their players, did Boufal’s aggression and actions border on disrespectful?
Yes he will be frustrated by the bit-part role he has had so far this season but his celebration was unnecessary and unprofessional.

Sometimes it is best to just let your quality do the talking on the pitch.
And while football fans don’t want robots for players, Boufal’s peacocking has not had the desired effect with Pellegrino telling him he must remain patient, as reported by the likes of the Telegraph.
Who knows whether the player apologised to his manager for his actions after the game but if he hasn’t perhaps he should.
