Everton brought in a plethora of new signings this summer, including Bernard and Yerry Mina.

Everton boss Marco Silva addressed the media during his pre-match press conference today, and responded when asked whether new signing Bernard will start against Southampton at Goodison Park tomorrow, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

The 25-year-old winger joined the Toffees on a free transfer earlier this month, after his contract expired with Shakhtar Donetsk, but he didn’t feature on the opening day against Wolves.

Many are predicting that the Brazilian will be a real hit at Everton, but he must prove to Marco Silva first and foremost that he is worthy of a place in the Portuguese’s starting XI.

Silva spoke to reporters today, ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Southampton, and responded when asked whether Bernard will be involved, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo:

“For all of the new players they have to show me that they are ready and better than the others. That is a normal thing in football.”

Silva also went on to rule out Yerry Mina:

“Yerry Mina is not available tomorrow. He is recovering from a small problem in his foot. I hope next week I can update you on the situation.”

Everton began their Premier League campaign with a draw away at Wolves last weekend, and Bernard will be hoping that he is given the opportunity to help his team go one better this time around against Southampton.

The Toffees have plenty of options in forward areas, though, so the Brazilian is far from assured of a place in the starting XI tomorrow.
