The Leeds United manager’s contract runs out at the end of the season, but the club have the option of rolling the deal on for another year.
Leeds manager Garry Monk talks to Pontus Jansson
Whites cult hero Pontus Jansson spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s bitterly disappointing 3-3 draw with Norwich City yesterday, and the ensuing promotion play-off heartache, and expressed his desire for Garry Monk to remain in the Leeds hot-seat for the foreseeable future, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The fact that Monk’s men failed to better Fulham’s result meant that they cannot possibly overhaul the Cottagers on the final day of the season, and must now begin preparations for making an assault on the top six in the Championship next term.
The 26-year-old Swede has been an astounding success, since making his season-long loan move to Elland Road in the summer of 2016, and has firmly established himself as a fan favourite amongst the Leeds faithful.
The former Malmo man spoke to reporters yesterday, highlighting the importance for the Whites to retain Monk as manager for next season, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post:
Leeds United manager Garry Monk
“He’s been a big, big part in my career here and he has taken care of me since the first day and he’s been good with me. I really hope that he is going to be coach for Leeds next season, of course.”
Jansson’s future has been the subject of intense speculation over this past month, with various Premier League clubs being linked with a move for the towering centre-half.
Judging by his words though, he will be more than happy to stay at Elland Road next season, on the one condition that Garry Monk remains at the helm.
