Has Pochettino dropped hint on Tottenham star Mousa Dembele’s future?

Mousa Dembele has been linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has told Ham&High that Mousa Dembele can continue to play in the Premier League.

Dembele has been on the books of Tottenham since the summer of 2012 when he joined from Fulham for a transfer fee reported by The Independent to be worth £15 million.

According to a recent report in The Daily Mail, Spurs are willing to sell the Belgium international midfielder in the summer transfer window and value him at £20m.

Tottenham manager Pochettino has stated that the 30-year-old can continue to play in the Premier League.

Dembele told Ham&High when asked if Dembele can continue to play at his current level in the Premier League: “We hope yes. I think yes. It’s not a problem.

“Only he’s a player we need to pay attention to, maybe more than others, because we know very well what happened in his ankle.

“Of course, we need to be careful about his ankle and then it’s about managing him in the best way to be fit, so he can play.”

Hint on future?

Pochettino’s comments suggest that he would be willing to carry on working with Dembele at Tottenham.

There have been injury concerns for the Belgian in recent times, but there is no doubt that the 30-year-old remains a very good midfielder who can carry on playing for Spurs for a few more years at least.

Dembele, who earns £80,000 per week as salary at Spurs according to The Daily Star, has made 21 starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League for Tottenham this season.
