The Tottenham Hotspur loanee has only had the training field and a few under-23 outings to impress.

In a recent interview with the Peterborough Telegraph, Peterborough United’s director of Football Barry Fry claimed Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of signing a new goalkeeper, so has loanee Pau Lopez done enough to impress in training, or will Spurs pull off a surprise and sign another player entirely?
Fry’s comments came as he discussed the prospect of signing Tottenham ‘keeper Luke McGee on a free transfer, adding that he understands “they will be signing another goalkeeper soon anyway.”
The most likely case is that Lopez will make his loan deal from Espanyol a permanent stay, and yet that is not certain, with the 22-year-old failing to make a single appearance for the Spurs first-team to date.
Lopez was first-choice stopper for the La Liga side, racking up 38 appearances last season and moving to White Hart Lane with a big reputation.

Unfortunately, he has had to make do with seven under-23 outings, making the bench as an unused substitute 10 times in all competitions, and much will depend on the future of Michel Vorm.
If the Dutchman remains, Lopez would be third-choice at best, but if the former Swansea City stopper moves on it could give the Spaniard a chance to stake a claim in the cup competitions.
Fry’s comments suggest Tottenham are closing in on Lopez’s permanent signing unless chairman Daniel Levy is about to throw a curve-ball, but if the youngster has impressed enough on the training field to earn a long-term deal, why hasn’t he got a few minutes with the senior side to back-up that belief?
