Joe Rodon had an absolute stormer for Tottenham Hotspur today.

Jose Mourinho’s side secured a 3-1 win away to Sheffield United and the 23-year-old produced a defensive masterclass against the Blades.

But unfortunately for him, the game might be remembered for Tanguy Ndombele’s goal more than the Welshman’s performance.

Two minutes after the Blades halved the deficit through David McGoldrick, Ndombele latched on to a scooped pass from Steven Bergwijn and managed to lob Aaron Ramsdale from the tightest of angles to restore Tottenham’s two-goal lead.

The Frenchman will do well to score a better goal than that this season and fans of the North London club were gushing over the effort on Twitter.

Likewise, Pat Nevin was also astonished by the goal, claiming on BBC Radio 5 Live that the former Lyon midfielder had absolutely ‘no right whatsoever’ to attempt it, let alone score.

He said: “Tanguy Ndombele has no right whatsoever to get that in. He’s got himself in a position where he’s miles outside the corner of the 6 yard line. With his right foot he’s just flicked it up behind himself, you can’t call it an overhead kick it’s an overhead outside of the right foot flick. Absolutely brilliant goal.”

It’s hard to believe that this is the player who couldn’t get a game under Mourinho toward the end of last season.

Him and the Tottenham coach seemed at loggerheads, but credit to the Portuguese and Ndombele for sorting it out because he’s clearly an unbelievable talent and Spurs are benefiting in a big way.
