Georges-Kevin Nkoudou’s brief appearances for Spurs so far may suggest that he is the club’s most exciting arrival of the summer transfer window, even more so than his fellow Frenchman Moussa Sissoko, one of the club’s most expensive ever signings.

It is early days yet of course, but on initial impressions the arrival from Marseille looks like a possible Premier League star in the making.

Nkoudou’s transfer to Spurs was in some ways the polar opposite to his compatriot’s. Whereas interest in Sissoko intensified only in the last day or so of the transfer window, with it not looking like it was going to happen until the very last moments before the deadline, Nkoudou’s move looked as good as done for months, but was only confirmed on the final day.

Since then, the 21-year-old has been given an extended period to get used to Premier League life, while Sissoko swiftly made his debut and then started the next two league matches.

The former Magpie has looked a powerful and determined player, with a quality on the ball that one would expect from a France international that has cost as much as he has.

But Nkoudou’s three cameo appearances, especially in the win over CSKA Moscow, have injected an excitement and necessary attacking threat through his obvious blistering pace and confident dribbling. His determination to seal a move to White Hart Lane, and his social media presence since the switch, had already helped warm him to fans ahead of his first minutes for the club, but that buzz has only swelled after a handful of minutes where he has showcased his quality.

That kind of weapon is something the club have been missing in recent seasons, with Clinton Njie largely failing to have an impact in his appearances last season, despite possessing a similar directness.

Most of the Spurs attacking midfielders have taken turns in more than one position, with wide players often swapping wings within a match. Though Nkoudou has operated out left and Sissoko on the right, both are battling for one of a limited number of influential spots, and if someone like Erik Lamela or Heung-Min Son drops out of the side, the two Frenchman will fancy their chances of coming in.

While both players are sure to bring a lot to Spurs over the course of the season, it is Nkoudou that supporters want to see given a chance to impress. Whether he gets a chance to start against Manchester City remains to be seen, but the young winger could be a talent to keep an eye on this season.
