Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge seems to be heading to West Bromwich Albion despite late Newcastle United interest.
The January fate of Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge finally appears to be looking clearer with Sky Sports reporting that he will join West Bromwich Albion on loan for the rest of the season.
Sturridge has only started five Premier League matches for the Reds this season and is desperate to secure more regular football in order to force his way into England’s World Cup squad.
Newcastle United wanted to take advantage of this situation to make a signing which would have been popular with the Toon Army, with Sturridge one of the country’s most lethal finishers when fit.
And while Sky Sports understands that Sturridge has chosen Albion for “family reasons”, he may not have had that decision to make had Newcastle took a different stance on Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Sun reported earlier this month that the Baggies wanted to sign the Serbian striker who was valued at £15m by the Magpies, and quite rightly West Brom moved on after hearing that asking price.
Had Newcastle been prepared to sell Mitrovic for a more realistic sum, in the region of the £8m offered by Brighton & Hove Albion according to Sky Sports, Albion may have taken him off their hands.
West Brom’s signing of Mitrovic may have given Newcastle a free run at Sturridge, whose record of a goal every other league game for Liverpool is exactly the type of firepower needed at St James’ Park.
