Newcastle United have held a long-term interest in signing Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend.

Andros Townsend’s move to Newcastle United looked to be one of the most inevitable transfers of the summer earlier this year, but there now have to be doubts over whether a deal can be completed.
Townsend struggled during his initial time at Crystal Palace, and he was nearly sold to Newcastle in the January transfer window.
However, the two clubs could not agree a fee, and the deal fell through – leaving Townsend at Selhurst Park.
The winger, at that stage, was simply a reserve option, with his form disappointingly poor.
However, just months later, Townsend finally seems to have found his groove in a Palace shirt.
The England international winger has been in fine form over the last few matches, and his performance in a 3-0 win over Arsenal last night was highly impressive.
Newcastle are known to still have an interest in Townsend, with Rafael Benitez plotting a move for the 25-year-old for some time (Chronicle).
However, the potential transfer now seems to be in a lot of doubt, as Townsend’s recent performances have surely made him at important part of Sam Allardyce’s plans at Selhurst Park.
