Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is believed to be keen to bring Miguel Almiron to St. James’ Park.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez’s comments to Chronicle may point towards a move for Miguel Almiron in January.

Almiron has been heavily linked with Newcastle in recent times, and Benitez’s latest comments suggest that he is looking to increase the creativity in the Magpies’ side.

He said: “I am happy with him [Rondon], but still he can improve because I think he is doing a great job for the team, but we maybe have to support him a little bit more.

“If he has more support, if he has more crosses and passes into him, then he will score more goals because he can do it.

“Anyone can do it if you give them more assists, but I think with Salomon, if the team puts the ball in the right position then he will also be on the end of the crosses, or at the end of the passes.”

Benitez’s comments certainly sound like those that a manager who was in the market for a number 10 would make.

Having Almiron at Newcastle would surely help Salomon Rondon to improve, as the service to him would only get better.

Rondon now has four goals in 12 Premier League matches for Newcastle so far this season, with most their goalscoring responsibility falling on his shoulders.

The Venezuelan finished well at the weekend, as Newcastle picked up a key victory over Huddersfield Town.

And with a playmaker of Almiron’s quality behind him at St. James’ Park, Rondon’s goalscoring record could well only be set to get better in 2019.

Newcastle’s win over Huddersfield has pushed them up to 14th place in the Premier League with their next match coming against bottom of the league Fulham at the weekend.
