And Pochettino’s comments suggest that Tottenham may well be open to doing business in the January transfer window.
“One thing to make clear is all coaching staff, managers, always want to improve the squad. Sometimes signing players or adding players from the academy like this,” he said.
“Of course we are always trying to improve our squad because football is dynamic. Every six months you need to do something to refresh and to wake up. Or change the dynamic in the dressing room. Always no?
“When we talk we need to talk about reality. If you want to sign Player X and that is your target and you ask for him and it is £100million. Ah, well we have money but not enough to sign what we need or what we want. Then you need to move on. And maybe the player you need is not on the market.”
Pochettino’s hint that Spurs do have £100 million to spend is particularly interesting, given the rumours that a January splurge could be on the cards.
Tottenham failed to bring in one player during the summer transfer window, which drew criticism from their fan base.
Last January, Tottenham brought in Lucas Moura to bolster their attacking options.
Even without additions, Spurs have begun the season fairly well, and currently sit just two points off the top of the Premier League table.
