Tottenham Hotspur have recently been linked with Watford winger Richarlison.

Mauricio Pochettino has told the Independent that Tottenham Hotspur are looking for players who can operate against defences which sit deep, adding fuel to the fire that Watford’s Richarlison could be a target for his side.

Pochettino has stated that signing rapid forwards is not necessarily important for Spurs, as so many teams sit deep against them.

Pochettino feels that players with trickery and creativity are more important than those with lightening pace.

And, with Spurs, heavily linked with Watford’s Richarlison recently, the Brazilian would certainly fit the bill.

Pochettino said: “If we wanted players to run fast we’d sign Usain Bolt or these types of players. That is different. What I wanted to say was that we needed to increase our tempos within the games, not players with more pace.

“Sometimes we need more capacity like we talked before players that have the capacity that when the players are deeper they have the ability to beat the opponent in a short space. It’s difficult.”

The Daily Star have reported on how Tottenham are keeping tabs on Richarlison, who has been a revelation since joining Watford, and is valued at around £25 million.

Richarlison has scored five goals in his first 12 Premier League appearances, with the 20-year-old catching the eye.

Tottenham have shown a desire to bring young talent to the club in recent transfer windows, and Richarlison certainly fits that description.

If Richarlison was to move to Spurs, he would be in competition with the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela for a first-team place.
