Rangers director of football Mark Allen has suggested to The Glasgow Evening Times that the Ibrox board will back him and Gers manager Steven Gerrard in the January transfer window.

The Ibrox club signed a number of players in the summer transfer window, including Ryan Kent on loan from Liverpool, Allan McGregor on a free and Connor Goldson from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Rangers board have also helped the team by improving the club’s training ground and the pitch at Ibrox.

Rangers director of football Allen has suggested that manager Gerrard will get funds to add to his squad in the January transfer window.

Allen told The Glasgow Evening Times: “All I can say on this, and I don’t really want to comment on the accounts because I am not party to that.

“But what I would say is that a lot of people, before I came to Rangers, said about the plight and the fact that there would be no funding and you wouldn’t be able to do things.”

“I have only ever presented plans that have been approved,” added Allen. “That is all I can say.”

Need for January signings

Rangers are doing well at the moment, both in the Scottish Premiership and in the Europa League, and there does seem to be a good chance that they will challenge Celtic for the league title until the end of the season.

What is important is that Rangers do have a competitive squad, and signing a couple of players – especially a striker – in the January transfer window would be a good decision for the Gers.
