Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa intimated that his side haven’t been ruthless enough.

Whatever happens with promotion, Leeds United probably need a new striker this summer.

And has Marcelo Bielsa just hinted that one might be on the shopping list for Leeds?

United’s automatic promotion hope looks to be in tatters ahead of Sunday’s visit of Aston Villa, but winning the playoff is still very realistic if it comes to that.

The Whites host the in-form Villans on the back of two successive defeats which appear to have consigned them to the playoffs.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds on Friday, Bielsa said: “I’m going to give you some figures which haven’t been taken into account, but for me they have a lot of value.

“Our team this season has had 100 chances to score and we had 100 chances more than the top two teams [Norwich and Sheffield United].”

It seems like Bielsa is intimating that his side haven’t been ruthless enough in front of goal and therefore perhaps the Argentine is hinting that a striker could be signed this summer.

Patrick Bamford has had an okay first season in West Yorkshire, much of it being spent on the sidelines, while Kemar Roofe has netted 14 times in the Championship.

Between them they have netted 24 times in 55 combined appearances this season. It isn’t enough and if Bielsa stays at Elland Road beyond this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him target another goalscorer, regardless of what happens promotion-wise.
