Coutinho’s departure from Liverpool to Barcelona could assist Tottenham’s pursuit of Andre Gomes.

Philippe Coutinho’s exit from Liverpool has not only weakened them, but it could have repercussions for competitors Tottenham.
The Express reported this week that Spurs have upped their interest in Barcelona’s Andre Gomes.
Spurs were keen on signing Gomes in August, but Barcelona blocked his exit on loan after failing in their pursuit of Coutinho, The Mail reported.

Coutinho’s arrival at the the Nou Camp surely then will help them make up their mind to let the Portuguese international leave.
Barcelona paid £45million (then €55million, as reported by AS) to sign Gomes from Valencia in 2016 but he has struggled to meet expectations.
This season he has been selected to start just two La Liga games, and would clearly benefit from an exit.

He plays a deeper midfield role than Coutinho and the Brazilian, and Barcelona no longer have the worries they did back in August.
They have the league title almost sewn up already, 16 points clear of Real Madrid, and have shown they are not negatively impacted by Neymar’s exit.
With Ousmane Dembele returning to fitness and Coutinho signing, the outlook is bright at Barcelona, and they have no need to hang onto Andre Gomes any longer.
With the anxiousness about Coutinho gone, that has to be good news for Tottenham’s Gomes pursuit.
