Aston Villa are reportedly willing to give Ahmed Musa an escape route out of Leicester City.
Perhaps beggars can be choosers after all.
Ahmed Musa has played just once for Leicester City all season, coming in August’s 4-1 EFL Cup win at Sheffield United. But The Foxes’ forgotten man appears to have no interest in dropping down a division to get his career back on track.
As reported by Goal, Hull City were hoping to lure Musa to the KCom on transfer deadline day over the summer. And despite the presence of Musa’s former CSKA Moscow coach Leonid Slutsky, a man the Nigerian international sees as a father figure, in the Hull dugout, the 25-year-old eventually rejected The Tigers’ offer.
But why would Musa turn down the chance for regular first-team football after a year of sitting on the bench? Because, as the speedy striker told Goal, he had no interest in playing in the Championship.
This, therefore, could already rule out a potential move to Aston Villa in the New Year. The Hull Daily Mail reported that the Midland giants were willing to offer a lifeline to a player who has started just seven Premier League games since his £16 million move to Leicester from CSKA in 2016.
Villa are currently sixth in the Championship and boast an impressive and experienced squad, one that gives them real hope of returning to the Premier League next season. One thing Villa are lacking, however, is rapid pace in attack – an attribute Musa has in abundance.
Even with a World Cup on the horizon, however, it appears that Musa is content enough to while away the season in the reserves rather than kick-start his career in the Championship.
