Everton boss Marco Silva is a big fan of Kurt Zouma, who was on loan at Goodison Park last term.
Kurt Zouma may just have given Everton hope that a transfer is still possible in the Daily Mail, just as it seemed he would not be making a return to Goodison Park.
Everton have been chasing Zouma all summer, and the Sun suggested that Marco Silva’s side would be willing to part with £30 million to sign the French centre-back.
However, the latest reports in the Sun suggested that Frank Lampard wanted to keep Zouma at Chelsea.
The London side are operating under a transfer ban, which has complicated transfer dealings for Everton.
Chelsea are believed to be loathed to lose Zouma as they cannot sign a replacement, which has meant that Everton’s attempts to sign him have been knocked back so far.
Zouma caught the eye on loan at Everton last term, where his partnership with Michael Keane was rock solid.
But all hope may not be lost for Everton just yet, after Zouma’s latest comments.
He said: “It was one of my targets to get into the France team,’ said Zouma. ‘It is very important to me. I had been there before and wanted to come back. I managed to do that which made me very happy.
‘Now the target is to play at the Euros next year but to be there you have to be playing at your club. That is why I’m working very hard in pre-season. We will see what’s going to happen.”
Zouma has effectively put Lampard under considerable pressure to play him, as he has gone on record to suggest he wants to be in the French squad for Euro 2020.
If Lampard cannot offer Zouma assurances of game time, then it sounds like he could still be open to a move elsewhere.
And Everton fans are sure to have noted the comments, after it was previously suggested that a transfer was impossible.
