Justin Rose topped the US Masters leaderboard yesterday with a wonderful round of 65.
Rose played the first seven holes in two over par at Augusta, but an eagle on the par five eighth turned things around.
Rose then went on to card a remarkable six birdies on the back-nine to fire him to the top of the US Masters standings.
Has Rose ever won the Masters before?
No, although he has come very close. Rose has finished second in the Masters twice.
He came runner-up to Jordan Spieth, who also performed well yesterday, in 2015 and lost out to Sergio Garcia in a play-off in 2017.
Rose’s only major win so far actually came at the US Open, back in 2013.

So does he have a chance this year?
Well, being four shots clear at the top of the leaderboard after day one is not to be sniffed at! However, it is also not a guarantee of success.
Rose certainly does has the game to challenge, though.
He has strong course form around Augusta – and he struck both his irons and driver beautifully yesterday.
The course is much trickier than in the November edition of the tournament, when Dustin Johnson got to -20, with the greens now playing firmly and fast.

Nobody, therefore, should burst past Rose if he continues to play steady and consistent golf.
And what football team does Rose support?
Rose is a massive Chelsea supporter and has spoken about his love for the club in the past.
Rose said last year to Forbes that he wanted Frank Lampard to stay, as he was enjoying seeing Chelsea’s youngsters breaking through.
He said: “As a fan, I’d rather us be—with the youngsters—in a transition period.
“If we could place top four and make the Champions League, I think it’s an incredible season. But I’d rather even be mid-table, watching the young players develop and the club rebuild, rather than have some big name Italian manager come in and struggle.
“The young lads like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mound, Billy Gilmour—lads from the Chelsea academy coming on to play—that’s how it should be. To have Frank Lampard there, you know he loves the club more than anything, and is doing everything for the right reasons.
“I have a home in Chelsea (London) too, and so it’s something I connect with my son a lot on. My son’s not a golfer and he’s 11 years old. He loves football, and I’ve gotten more into football again as a result of it.”

Rose never got his wish, as Chelsea replaced Lampard with Thomas Tuchel midway through this season.
The Blues take on Crystal Palace tomorrow, and a victory for Tuchel’s men at Stamford Bridge could make the weekend even sweeter for Rose.
When does he tee off today?
Rose gets his second round underway at 2:36GMT today.
