Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told The Liverpool Echo that Xherdan Shaqiri will be ready for the Merseyside derby against Everton this weekend.

The Reds will take on Everton at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

It will be Shaqiri’s first experience of the Merseyside derby, with the 27-year-old winger having moved to Liverpool from Stoke City in the summer transfer window.

Klopp told The Liverpool Echo about Shaqiri: “That’s something you do always, when the new boys are in they are so much better than all the others.

“I don’t get the word ‘relish’ actually, but yes I think he will enjoy it a lot and he will be ready for it as well. We have to see how we play and which line up we will choose.”

Xherdan Shaqiri to start against Everton?

Shaqiri has been playing regular for Liverpool in recent weeks, but the 27-year-old started their Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek on the substitutes’ bench.

Klopp’s aforementioned comments suggest that the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan winger could start against Everton on Sunday.

The winger’s pace and tricks will be important for the Reds in their quest to pick up all three points from the Merseyside derby.

According to WhoScored, Shaqiri has scored two goals and provided two assists in 381 minutes of Premier League football so far this season.

Liverpool are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 33 points from 13 matches, just two points behind leaders Manchester City.
