Tottenham were linked with Jesse Lingard earlier this month.
Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard in action
Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard was reported earlier this month by The Mirror to be a possible transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.
The paper claim Spurs are monitoring developments as he seeks a new contract at Old Trafford with his current deal set to expire in 2018, but Jose Mourinho’s latest comments make the prospect of a summer transfer unlikely.
Mourinho has bemoaned the parity between United and the top clubs, which means he can no longer view Tottenham as a team he can raid for their top players.
By the same token, do not expect him to sanction a player deal to Spurs.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho
Mourinho told France Football: “Here, everyone is powerful now. The scenery has changed. If I want to buy a player from Tottenham, I can’t.
“Nor can I buy a player from Manchester City or Arsenal. That was not the case before.”
“At Chelsea, I brought in Shaun Wright-Phillips, who was the best player at Manchester City or Ashley Cole from Arsenal. Sir Alex, when he wanted the best player from Tottenham, he bought Michael Carrick and then Berbatov.”
Mourinho was in charge at Chelsea when they sold Petr Cech to Arsenal, but took a very clear stance that he was against the deal and was over ruled.
