Rafael Benitez has been superb for Newcastle United so far. Despite failing to keep the Magpies in the Premier League last season, the Spaniard has got them promoted from the Championship this campaign.

Benitez is one of the best managers in the world and is a genuinely brilliant tactician. The footballing style of the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager is not always attractive to the eye, but he gets the job done.

Newcastle are one of the biggest clubs in England, and they do have the potential to achieve great things in the future.

With a loyal and strong fanbase and regular stadium attendance of around 50,000, the Magpies have the potential to establish themselves in the top 10 of the Premier League in the coming years.

The key question now is whether Benitez would remain at St. James’ Park for the 2017-18 campaign. The former Real Madrid head coach was recently non-committal about his future, as reported by The Chronicle, but Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has asked where the Spaniard would go if he decides to leave the Magpies.

Carragher, who played under Benitez at Liverpool, has also suggested that Newcastle are a bigger club than London outfit West Ham United.

“I’ll come back to the issue of being sacked in a minute but, for a moment, there is one critical question that needs to be answered, when you think about the possibility of him resigning: where exactly is he going to go?” Carragher wrote in The Daily Mail. “What job in the Premier League outside the elite is bigger than Newcastle?

“At this moment, I find it difficult to see any of the top six clubs taking him. So what else is out there? Maybe West Ham if Slaven Bilic were to leave. But would that represent a bigger step up than Tyneside? No.

“He is working at a club with a brilliant stadium and a huge fan base that has potential. He is also being handsomely rewarded for it.”
