Sam Clucas may have enjoyed a fine season for Hull City but Newcastle United are right not to pay such a huge fee.
Hull City’s Sam Clucas battles with the world’s most expensive footballer
One player in Rafael Benitez’ squad may be hopeful that Sam Clucas does not turn up at Newcastle United this summer. A tigerish, tenacious central midfielder capable of filling in admirably at left-back, does the Hull City favourite remind you of anyone?
Jack Colback, perhaps?
However, with The Mirror reporting that Leicester City, Swansea and Burnley are now the frontrunners for the former Chesterfield man, Colback could afford himself a brief sigh of relief.
The Guardian claimed recently that Newcastle had identified Clucas as a potential summer target as Benitez aims to build a squad capable of cutting the mustard in the Premier League.
Despite Hull eventually succumbing to relegation with a game to spare, the 26-year-old’s energetic performances in the Tigers’ engine room meant his reputation was not tainted by finishing 18th.

In fact, Clucas actually enjoyed a fine individual campaign. If the team around him had demonstrated the same levels of tenacity and desire, perhaps their famous amber and black stripers would be decorating the top flight again next season.
Therefore, he may have been a solid addition to Newcastle’s midfield. However, with three Premier League rivals jumping ahead of them in the queue, you wonder why Benitez has not made a move.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that The Mirror claims Hull will demand £12 million to take Clucas from the KCom Stadium. And though owner Mike Ashley has promised Benitez that he will have plenty of money to spend this summer, such a huge price-tag will surely have made The Magpies think twice.
