Craig Burley has warned Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur about signing Romelu Lukaku from London rivals, Chelsea.

The former Chelsea player asked ‘has his agent brought it up?’ after he was told that Tottenham could replace Harry Kane with the Belgium international.

But Burley made it clear that Romelu Lukaku ‘isn’t the answer’ and he would be ‘surprised’ if Ange Postecoglou wanted to take him on board, as he told ESPN

The exit of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich will still be raw for the Spurs fans and it will take time for them to get over it.

But the powers that be need to put all the emotions aside and bring in a replacement because the current crop won’t be able to cope with the high volume of goals that would need to be replaced.

Whilst Spurs are looking at Lukaku, it was explained why the 30-year-old is the wrong choice for this new-look Spurs side.

“Has his agent brought it up,” Burley responded in a sarcastic fashion. “I don’t see it with this coach.

“This coach is about energy and everybody buying in, working hard and playing football. He’s (Lukaku) at the wrong end of his career.

“Don’t get me wrong, breaking news, Richarlison isn’t the answer – but I certainly don’t see Lukaku as the answer, in fact, I would be surprised if that’s something Postecoglou would be interested in.”

What next for Lukaku?

His first season at Inter was a pure success, including helping the team win the Serie A title under Antonio Conte.

Then Chelsea came knocking, he returned, and within months the relationship between player and manager/fans had turned sour.

It wasn’t a surprise that he was loaned to Inter last summer, but he hardly started games, injuries ruined him, struggled at the World Cup with Belgium and was on the bench for the 2023 Champions League final defeat to Manchester City.

Now, there doesn’t seem to be a return to Inter in sight, he’s not training with Chelsea’s first team, so what next for a career that many think hasn’t reached the heights that it should have?
