The Everton midfielder has done little to justify his inclusion in recent weeks.
When Everton first signed Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United, it seemed like an impressive piece of business, but on recent evidence the French international has done little to justify his regular starting spot.
The midfielder is far from the only Everton player to be under-performing in the current campaign. The problem is, with the Toffees needing resilience and fight in the centre of the field, Schneiderlin is offering little in that regard.
So far this season the 27-year-old has made 12 appearances in all competitions, yet time and again he has looked disinterested and is simply not putting in the kind of performances required of an international midfielder playing for a side desperate for some steel.
While Tom Davies has waited patiently for his opportunities and impressed when granted them, his vastly more experienced Everton teammate has done nothing, and he deserves as much criticism as the likes of Ashley Williams and Cuco Martina – two Toffees players regularly lambasted for their mediocre showings.
Only time will tell if Schneiderlin can turn things around, although his United spell definitely did some damage and it has been years since he put in the kind of performances that earned rave reviews at Southampton.
Everton boss Ronaldo Koeman cannot drop everyone, as much as some of their fans may want him to, yet Schneiderlin should certainly be near the top of the list unless he improves dramatically after the international break.
