Glasgow Rangers fans were keen to see Graham Dorrans replace Sean Goss for the Ibrox side’s next game.
It has been difficult to fault Sean Goss since he arrived at Ibrox on loan during the January transfer window, with the midfielder swiftly making himself a hugely valuable member of the Rangers side and forming a very good partnership in the middle with Greg Docherty.
It has taken many by surprise just how good Goss has been given that he arrived with just six career appearances under his belt. However, a lot of the shine was taken off his very good start by the way that he played against Celtic last weekend.
It was arguably Goss’ weakest performance for the Gers as Celtic ran out 3-2 winners in an enthralling game at Ibrox, and that has prompted the fans to suggest that they want Graham Dorrans to come back into the team as he returns from injury.
But perhaps Dorrans’ first run out since his long-term lay-off will tempt Graeme Murty to hand Goss another chance to make up for his disappointing display against the Hoops when Rangers host Kilmarnock.
Dorrans was part of the strong development side that were beaten 3-0 by Brentford this week. And while the 30-year-old had some bright moments, including one particular pass that should have led to a goal, all of the Bees’ goals came while he was on the pitch, while the Gers managed to keep the visitors out in the second-half after Dorrans had been subbed off.
The former Norwich City man will not shoulder all of the blame for the defeat, but it perhaps does provide a slight hint that he is still making his way back to full fitness and may not be ready to start this weekend.
And if that proves to be the case, Goss needs to get back to playing as he did before the Old Firm game as that seems to be the level he will need to reach if he wants to frustrate Dorrans over the coming weeks.
